The Demigods, Creatures, Mortals, Gods and Goddesses etc. Which are Important to the Story

My name is Percy Jackson. I'm twelve years old. Until a few months ago, I was a boarding student at Yancy Academy, a private school for troubled kids in upstate New York. Am I a troubled kid? Yeah. You could say that." --Percy Jackson, The Lightning Thief

The Main Characters

Annabeth has curly golden blonde hair and is "like a princess," as Percy describes it. She is tall, fit, and athletic. Her eyes have been described as an intense shade of gray and always have a distracted look as if she were thinking of a million things at once. Because her mother is the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, Annabeth is a skilled warrior in battle and an adept strategist. She is knowledgeable in architecture and the Greek gods and creatures, which is very useful in journeys, battles, and quests.

Grover is described as a tall satyr with curly brown hair, brown eyes, small horns, Caucasian skin, chin wispy beard and hairy brown goat legs.Grover befriended Percy when they were both learning together at Yancy Academy. Percy thought Grover had been held back a few years due to his facial hair and acne. The two are best friends, have an empathy link, and have gone on many quests together.

luke-castellan Luke Castellan

Luke Castellan is a Greek demigod, the son of Hermes and the mortal May Castellan. He was one of the main antagonists of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. He was tricked by the Titan Kronos into hosting his spirit. Although he is considered as the series' main human antagonist, he died at age twenty three as the hero of the Great Prophecy. Luke is described as a tall, handsome young man whom all the girls liked, with short-cropped sandy blonde hair, blue eyes, an athletic and muscular build, and a sneaky look like all Hermes demigod children. Luke has a thick, deep pale scar that runs from the bottom of his eye down to his chin.

thalia-grace Thalia Grace

Thalia Grace is the Greek demigod daughter of Zeus and mortal, Ms. Grace. She was transformed into a pine tree on Half-Blood Hill, which still stands as the official border for Camp Half-Blood to this day. Later she was revived with the Golden Fleece. She is currently the lieutenant of the Hunters of Artemis. Thalia holds divine authority over the creatures of the sky as well as weather, having powers that are greater than the children of nearly every other god. Thalia became Artemis' lieutenant (replacing Zoë Nightshade) in the end of The Titan's Curse, and as a result she is immortal, unless she falls in battle, chooses to leave, or falls in love.

rachel-dare Rachel Elizabeth Dare

Rachel Elizabeth Dare is a mortal girl which currently hosts the spirit of the Oracle of Delphi. She is a clear-sighted mortal, which means that she can see clearly through the Mist, a supernatural force controlled by the goddess Hecate that twists a mortal's sight from seeing monsters, gods, Titans, and various other mythical creatures and supernatural occurrences by replacing them with things the mortal mind knows about and can comprehend. In The Battle of the Labyrinth, Percy goes to her for help in navigating Daedalus' Labyrinth in order to locate Daedalus. She sets off with Percy and Annabeth through the maze because they need her help. She shows signs of liking Percy, but is aware of Annabeth's feelings for him as well and calls Percy blind for not seeing it.

nico-di-angelo Nico di Angelo

Nico di Angelo is a fourteen year old Greek demigod son of Hades and mortal Maria di Angelo. He is also the younger brother of the late Bianca di Angelo and known to be in the Underworld as the "Ghost King" after taking the title from King Minos. He is the one who convinced Percy to bathe in the River Styx. As a son of Hades, Nico is an extremely powerful demigod. Nico can summon the dead, put the dead to sleep, and communicate with the dead. Some of his abilities in this domain includes the power to destroy Skeleton Warriors and physically manipulating ghosts, such as taking hold of them by hand or forcing them to be silent with a gesture. In The Last Olympian, he was able to summon a fairly large army of undead soldiers by himself.

chiron Chiron

Chiron is the activities director at Camp Half-Blood. He is a centaur and is the son of Kronos. Chiron is also known as Mr. Brunner. Chiron is described as a middle-aged white centaur from the waist down with thinning brown hair, bushy eyebrows, intense brown eyes and a scruffy beard grown longer in the winter. As the Director of Camp Half-Blood, Chiron takes great pride in his students and acts as a father figure to those that have problems with their own family (like Annabeth). He will also go out of his way or put himself in danger to protect the campers even if he knows that he may not be able to help them.Chiron also has deep faith in Percy, even before Percy knew he was a demigod.

tyson Tyson

Tyson is a Cyclops, a son of Poseidon, and Percy Jackson's half brother. His mother however is an unknown nature spirit. He is the current general of the Cyclopes army. Tyson first appeared when Percy met him at Meriwether College Prep, the school they both went to. He was told he was a freak because of his homelessness and his "different" personality, and Percy would always defend him. Tyson is two meters tall, and very broad shouldered, and has very messy brown hair. He has one large brown eye, but when he isn't at Camp he is hard working in Poseidon's forges, and it looks like he has two because of the Mist.

Minor Characters
Bianca di Angelo:a Greek demigod, a daughter of Hades and the mortal Maria di Angelo. She is the older sister of Nico. She became a Hunter of Artemis in The Titan's Curse after being saved along with Percy Jackson, Grover Underwood, Thalia Grace, and her little brother Nico by the Hunters. She died and chose for rebirth.

Silena Beauregard: a Greek demigod, a daughter of Aphrodite, girlfriend of Charles Beckendorf, and the former head counselor of Cabin 10 at Camp Half-Blood. As she was dying, she reveals that she was Kronos' spy that was reporting and updating Luke/Kronos' army on Camp Half-Blood's plans. She did it because before she liked Charles Beckendorf, she was charmed by Luke Castellan, who convinced her that she would be saving lives and that Charlie wouldn't be hurt. Afterwards, she wanted to stop being a spy, but Luke blackmailed her saying that he would reveal her secret if she ever stopped.

Charles Beckendorf:a Greek demigod son of Hephaestus. He was the head counselor of Cabin 9 at Camp Half-Blood and the boyfriend of Silena Beauregard before his death, which occurred when the Princess Andromeda(the boat where the monsters are riding towards Manhattan) blew up. It was a tactical assault with Percy Jackson, shortly before the Battle of Manhattan.

Blackjack: a friendly, pure black pegasus, who assists Percy Jackson when he needs transportation, and can also communicate with Percy in his mind. Blackjack and other Pegasi often go to Percy, who helps them with their, or other creatures' problems. Blackjack was once a prisoner on the Titan Kronos' army ship, Princess Andromeda, until Percy released him indirectly.

Mrs. O'Leary: Percy Jackson's pet hellhound. She is thought to be the only friendly hellhound in existence. She is unnaturally large, even for a hellhound. Mrs. O'Leary was originally Quintus'(Daedalus) hellhound pet. Quintus tamed her and they became very close. She is faithful to Quintus, then to Percy. According to Quintus, the story of how he got her involves "many close calls with death and quite a few giant squeaky toys."

Daedalus: (also known as Quintus) was a demigod son of Athena, the inventor of the Labyrinth, and was a genius of his time. He is also the oldest known demigod, or simply the only adult one shown in the series that wasn't made immortal by the gods. Daedalus was an omnibus, able to succeed at nearly anything he turned his hand toward.

Ethan Nakamura:a Greek demigod, a son of Nemesis, the minor Greek goddess of revenge and balance. He joined the Titan Army in the Second Olympian War, but was killed after his betrayal of Kronos in The Last Olympian.

Sally Jackson: is the mortal mother of Greek demigod Percy Jackson. Sally was married to Gabe Ugliano so that monsters would stay away from her son, in the hope that Gabe's smelly and repulsive human scent would cover Percy's scent. However, Gabe was abusive to Sally when Percy was not around, hitting her and treating her badly. She works in a candy shop called Sweet on America, loves the color blue, and blue food.

Zoë Nightshade: a former Hesperide that was exiled and later joined the Hunters of Artemis, becoming the loyal lieutenant of Artemis. SHe is the daughter of the Atlas, the Titan who was cursed to lift the weight of the sky. She makes an appearance in the book The Titan's Curse, where Percy, Grover, Thalia, Bianca and her rescue Artemis. Her death was meant to be because the last line of the prophecy stated that: "One shall perish by a parent's hand."

Gods

zeus Zeus: is the Greek god of honor, justice, lightning, and the skies. He is the lord of Olympus, the son of the Titans Kronos and Rhea, and the husband of the goddess Hera. In 1988, Zeus became immensely attracted to a beautiful television starlet, Ms. Grace, and had a child by her which was Thalia Grace. He left her but returned seven years later in 1995 as his Roman aspect, Jupiter. As Thalia and her friends, seven year-old Annabeth Chase, fourteen year-old Luke Castellan and a satyr named Grover Underwood reached the borders of Camp Half-Blood, the monsters overwhelmed them, causing her to sacrifice herself to save her friends. Zeus took pity on her and transformed her into a pine tree to preserve her spirit.

hera Hera: is the Greek goddess of familial love, marriage, motherhood, and women. She is the elder sister and wife of Zeus, therefore making her Queen of the Olympus. She is one of the daughters of Rhea and Kronos. Her Roman counterpart is Juno. She aids Annabeth and her group in their quest multiple times; by providing for them, by postponing the time of Annabeth’s critical decision, by giving the group a free pass through the Triple G Ranch, and by guiding Percy’s arrow as it pierced Geryon’s hearts.

poseidon Poseidon: is the Greek god of destruction, earthquakes, horses, hurricanes, oceans, seas, storms, and other water bodies. He is the son of the Titans, Kronos and Rhea, as well as one of the Big Three. He is Percy Jackson and Tyson's father. His Roman counterpart is Neptune. After Percy survives the attack during his first game of Capture the Flag at camp, Poseidon claims him as his own. This causes discord among the gods of Olympus as it is proof that Poseidon had not honored the pact that was made between the Big Three after World War II.

hades Hades:is the Greek god of the Underworld, wealth, and the Lord of the dead. One of the Big Three gods, his wife is Persephone. Hades' Roman counterpart is Pluto. As the god of the Underworld, Hades has absolute control over all the earth and stones, as well as the walls of the Underworld, Erebus. He has the same geokinetic abilities as Nico, only extremely increased.

ares Ares: is the Greek god of war. His symbols include the boar, dog, wolf, spear, sword, and vulture. His Roman counterpart is Mars. As the god of War, Ares would often participate in mortal conflicts, but would often fare poorly in divine contests. He would lend strength to whatever side he favored, but was known to be somewhat fickle and change sides in the middle of a battle.

athena Athena: is the Greek virgin goddess of wisdom, handicrafts, useful arts, and battle strategy. She is the daughter of Zeus and Metis, and her symbols include the owl, Aegis, the olive tree, and the snake. Her Roman counterpart is Minerva. Athena is Annabeth Chase's mother. Although she is counted as a virgin goddess, Athena can conceive children by joining her mind with her lovers. This means they are literally 'brain children'. It is believed this ability of Athena's was influenced by the fact she came out of Zeus's brain in full battle armor.

demeter Demeter: is the Olympian Greek goddess of the harvest and agriculture, who presided over grains, the fertility of the earth, the seasons, and the harvest. Demeter's Roman counterpart is Ceres. Demeter can control, create, and manipulate plants and crops. She can also grant fertility to the earth, allowing plants to grow where they could not grow before. Also, she aids plants in growing simply by being near them.

artemis Artemis: Artemis is the Greek virgin goddess of the hunt, the Moon, chastity, animals, and the wilderness. She and her twin brother Apollo are known as the "Twin Archers." Artemis' handmaidens are known as the Hunters of Artemis, a group of young women that have turned their back from the company of men and have pledged themselves to the goddess. Her Roman counterpart is Diana.

apollo Apollo: is the Greek god of the sun, light, healing, music, poetry, archery, and prophecy. He is the twin brother of the goddess Artemis. He is depicted as the god who drives the sun around in his chariot, a job he received when the original sun god, Helios, faded due to him being downsized by the Romans. He and his sister, are known as the Twin Archers.

hephaestus Hephaestus:is the Greek god of forges, fire, technology, craftsmen, sculptors, volcanoes, and blacksmiths. His symbols are the ax, an anvil, a pair of tongs, hammer, and fire. His Roman counterpart is Vulcan.Hephaestus was also in the fight between the gods and Typhon. However, he was hit by Typhon and "was thrown from the battle so hard he created a new lake in West Virginia."Hephaestus later votes to abide by Percy's wishes in claiming all of their demigod children by the time they turn thirteen years old.

apollo

Hermes:is the Greek god of roads, speed, messengers, commerce, travel, thieves, merchants, athletes, and mail deliverers. His Roman counterpart is Mercury. His symbol is the caduceus. He appears to Percy Jackson on the beach where he motivates the young demigod into going on a quest. The real reason behind Hermes' actions is the hope that Percy will bring Luke, one of his numerous sons, back from the side of Kronos.

aphrodite Aphrodite: is the Greek goddess of beauty, love, lust, desire, sexuality, and pleasure. Her Roman counterpart is Venus. Percy finds Aphrodite's Scarf, which Annabeth snatches away from him before he can get intoxicated by the perfume. Later in the series Percy finds the scarf in the attic of the Big house whilst visiting the Oracle and wonders why Annabeth kept it since he thought she had just thrown it away.

dionysus Dionysus: is the Greek god of grape-harvest, wine, madness, parties, and ecstasy as well as theater. He is also known as Mr. D, the camp director of Camp Half-Blood. He was placed as the director by his father Zeus as punishment for chasing after an off-limits nymph. After the decree that Olympus would be closed and that gods would have no contact with their demigod child, he was recalled to Olympus. His Roman counterpart is Bacchus.

hestia Hestia: (meaning "hearth" or "fireside") is the eldest child of Kronos and Rhea. She is the virgin goddess of the hearth, home, the right ordering of domesticity, and family. She received the first offering at every sacrifice in the household. Her Roman counterpart is Vesta. Hestia would be the last Olympian if the thrones of the gods are destroyed, as she relinquished her own throne and seat of power to Dionysus. Her power is enshrined in her realm- the hearth and home. As opposed to the 12 enthroned Olympians, Hestia does not seek attention or recognition, but exists contentedly at the hearth, the final guardian and place of solace one can turn to should they need her. Percy is of the opinion that she prefers to remain obscure.

iris Iris: is the goddess of the Rainbow. She delivers Iris Messages for gods, goddesses, and if asked nicely, and she's not too busy, for demigods. Interestingly, her affiliation is unknown, as she has been known to deliver messages for both gods, demigods, and Titans. It is possible that she was neutral in the Second Titan War because she was too busy carrying messages, as she wasn't among the many minor gods and goddesses who had switched over to Kronos' side. Her Roman counterpart is Arcus.

janus Janus:is the minor Roman god of choices, doorways, beginnings, and endings. During the Second Olympian War, he joined the Titans, like many other of his fellow minor gods.Janus appears to Annabeth Chase and causes her great indecision about the choices she has to make. He tried to get her to choose one of the doors in the Labyrinth, but Hera interrupted and postponed her choice. Later, she tells Percy Jackson that the decision had to do with whether or not to trust Luke Castellan. He was also there, thousands of years ago, when the inventor and son of Athena, Daedalus, decided to kill his nephew, Perdix, rather than save him. At the end of the book, Mr. D stated that he had gone over to the Titans' side.

morpheus Morpheus: is the Greek god of dreams, the son of Hypnos and Pasithea and the leader of The Oneiroi. He is also known as "The Shaper," for being able to change form in peoples dream's with the help of his two brothers. His Roman counterpart is Somnia. His symbols are a closed eye and a dark crown. Morpheus casts a huge sleeping spell (presumably with the help of Hecate) which causes all of the mortals in Manhattan or near the area to fall asleep. This event is described in the third line of the Great Prophecy: "And see the world in endless sleep."

pan Pan:The group follows the river to a cave in the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, where they find Pan lying on a bed. He fades in and out as he dies. He is surrounded by extinct animals that fade into dust as he dies. He individually addresses Percy, Annabeth, Tyson, and Rachel, but does not address Nico. As Pan dies, some of his energy goes into everyone with a little more going to Grover.

persephone Persephone:is the minor Greek goddess of springtime, flowers, fertility, and young life. Persephone is the daughter of Demeter and Zeus. She is the wife of Hades and therefore, the queen of the Underworld. Her Roman counterpart is Proserpina.

Titans

kronos Kronos: Kronos (also known as Cronus) is the King of the Titans and the most powerful child of Gaea and Ouranos. Kronos is the main antagonist in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, being directly responsible for some of the major events in the series. Kronos is the Titan Lord of Fate, Harvest, Justice, and Time whose Roman counterpart is Saturn. atlas Atlas: (also called "The General") is the Titan of Endurance and strength. As punishment for leading the armies of Kronos against him in the first Titanomachy, Zeus charged him to hold the sky for all eternity. Holding the sky is a curse that can only be carried by a child of Gaea and Ouranos or a person with a good heart. He is Kronos' second-in-command, and is in charge of recruiting monsters for the Titans' cause. While Kronos was regenerating inside of his sarcophagus, the General seemed to be in charge of the army. He was the consort of Phoebe, a fellow Titan, and father of the Hesperides. His brothers are Prometheus and Epimetheus.

calypso Calypso: (also known as Atlantis) is the daughter of Atlas. The Greek mythological Calypso is described as a lovely seductress. She is the daughter of Atlas, Titan of the West and Lord of Endurance and Tethys, a Titaness and sea goddess. She is described as being a kind and sweet 'minor goddess'. She lives in an island called "Ogygia" (pronounced Oh-jee-jee-ah). After Percy causes an eruption at Mount Saint Helens, he washes up on the island of Ogygia. Calypso nursed him back to health, but Percy at first was unsure of her as she and the island were both very beautiful, and in his experience, places like that are usually traps. Percy realized that as much as he wanted to stay, he had to go back to Camp Half-Blood eventually. Calypso was saddened by the news and explained to Percy that she was cursed to stay on Ogygia forever by the gods, because she supported her father in the first great war. She is also cursed to have heroes wash up on her island, wounded or hurt for her to heal. However, the people that landed on her island were always people she would fall in love with, but they would never be able to stay with her.

hyperion Hyperion: is the Titan of light and is the father of Eos, Helios, and Selene by Theia, the Titaness of sight and enlightenment. Hyperion's name means "watcher from above" or "he who goes above" from the Greek words hyper and iôn. One of the twelve original Titans, Hyperion was imprisoned in Tartarus after the Titanomachy and was eventually released during the Second Titan War to fight against Olympus. His Roman form is Sun. Hyperion is first seen in a dream of Percy's on Mount Tamalpais talking to Krios about Prometheus and the trap for the Olympians. He also mocks Atlas, who is complaining saying he wants to fight and someone should take the sky from him. Therefore Atlas can stand a chance against the gods.

prometheus Prometheus: is the Titan of crafty counsel and forethought. He is known for giving humans the gift of fire. He is the son of Iapetus and Clymene and the brother-in-law of Pandora. In the Second Olympian War, Prometheus joins Kronos in the battle against the gods, and is sent as a messenger by the Titans in an effort to persuade the demigod forces into surrendering. Claiming to have always been an ally of humanity, he tells Percy Jackson that he has foreseen their defeat, and asks them to give up their fight. He claims that the gods are just as petty, if not worse, than the Titans and that humanity would benefit from the victory of Kronos. To tempt Percy, he claims he has a new revelation that would carry humanity as far from its current point as fire brought them, but that under Zeus mankind would never be allowed to advanced that far. Percy declines, but Prometheus leaves behind Pandora's Jar, saying that should he change his mind, Percy would only need release Elpis, the spirit of hope who resided within the jar, to symbolically "give up hope" and show their surrender.
